Hot pork, leek & potato salad with fried egg (page 268)

Practical playtime / Jobs for the kids

  • Wash the leeks.
  • Peel the red onion. Start your child off by cutting off the tops with a knife. Then peel the skin just enough to give them something to grip and then pull off. This is extremely satisfying at any age.
  • Measure the vinegar.
  • Measure the mustard.
  • Measure the capers.
  • Take the gherkins out of their jars.
  • Measure the gravy.
  • Measure the yoghurt.
  • Weigh the chestnuts.
  • Pick the parsley leaves from the stalk.
  • Make the dressing.

My Cooking With Kids Recipe Diary

Jake 5 years 4 months, James 2 years 8 months

James had his stitches out yesterday, a week after his accident. He wasn't really hungry, just ate some egg.

Jake ate it all and had seconds. I didn't change anything for him. He is bird watching today. They've got a school project to spot as many as they can. We've put peanuts outside my office and Casey has got bread next door.
