Practical Playtime / Jobs For The Kids
- Cut the butter with a butter knife and stuff it into the holes in the chicken breast where the wishbone was.
- Peel the onions. Start your child off by cutting off the tops with a knife. Then peel the skin just enough to give them something to grip and then pull off. This is extremely satisfying at any age.
- Peel the potatoes with as much supervision as they need.
My Cooking With Kids Recipe Diary
Jake 5 years 3 months, James 2 years 7 months
Jake and James and Casey and I had had the weekend together. Casey was in our house painting so I thought this recipe could rescue me in a way. Casey looked after the boys in the bath while I roasted it. James ate a big leaf of romaine, the first time he has chewed and eaten a whole salad leaf. Casey was with us, and she was eating a lot of salad, so he really wanted to join in, but this isn’t always the case.
The next day
I watched 'Desperate Housewives' and Susan talked about doing exactly what I’m doing in the chapter, roasting a chicken then making meals with it over the space of a week. She made it sound horrible.
