There is a New Zealand sweet potato called a kumara that I used to use all of the time. When I left home I stopped using kumara for more than a decade. I then started to use European sweet potatoes when we made purees for Jake when he was tiny. They're a brilliant base to mix with other vegetables in puree for babies.
Jake tried some of this as a second course after he ate the herring. He absolutely loved it, even though there was a full amount of rub on the chicken. 'These are my favourite potatoes,' he said, 'they’ve got sugar on them!!'
James tried this recipe in the evening and ate all his chicken but only a tiny amount of the sweet potatoes. I can’t understand this. Why would a kid not want to eat sweet potatoes but want to eat chips that he's never seen before?
