Braising fish on tomato compote is an excellent way to get kids interested in trying new fish. Feel free to sprinkle the top with breadcrumbs if you think that will help.
I cooked this not long after Hugh Fearnley Whittingstall launched his fish fight. Jake, James and I watched all of Jamie’s 10 minute fish dishes together. They were a perfect length for kids and Jake became very interested in the different types of fish Jamie used. He thinks the name pollock is hilarious.
Ever since Jake was tiny, we've gone to the covered market in Oxford, which has a great fishmonger. But we’ve always spent most time with the lobster and crab tanks. It got me thinking that we need to introduce kids to these different fish and eating them, if they are going to have a future. Everyone is so used to cod, tuna and salmon because they're the fish that we’ve always known. If we introduce kids to as many different types of fish as possible from an early age, they’ll be used to the idea that there are lots of different fish in the sea. And they’ll be used to the idea that they can eat them all.
